    [Electrical] HP 4345mfp

I have an HP 4345mfp that presented with a frozen operation panel with no backlight. Performed recommmended testing and found engine power supply to be bad. Replaced the power supply and all problems resolved. Machine was put back in service. 2 days later the machine was presenting with exact same problem. Replaced engine power supply again, thinking I may have got a bad replacement. All problems resolved and machine was placed back into service. 24 hours later and the same exact problem has returned. Any ideas as to what may be taking out the engine power supply? I have checked as well as I know how and I'm left scratching my head. Power supply fan is working.

What is the outlet reading for voltages and neutral to ground?

Don't know about power supply, but usually when the machine hangs and no backlight I would suspect formatter/flash firmware related issue.

        Per service manual:

If the control panel is blank when you turn on the MFP, check the following items.
1 Make sure that the MFP is plugged into an active electrical outlet that delivers the correct voltage.
2 Make sure that the power switch is in the on position.
3 Make sure that the fan runs briefly, which indicates that the power supply is operational.
4 Make sure that the control-panel display wire-harness is connected. See Control panel.
5 Make sure that the firmware flash memory card and the formatter are seated and operating
correctly. See Flash memory card (firmware).
6 Remove any HP Jetdirect or other EIO cards, and then try to turn the MFP on again.
NOTE If the control-panel display is blank, but the main cooling fan runs briefly after the
MFP power is turned on, try printing an engine test page to determine whether the problem is
with the control-panel display, formatter, or other MFP components. See Engine test.
If the main cooling fan is not operating, check the following items.
1 Check the fuse on the power-factor correction (PFC) power supply (location FU1; near the power switch) to make sure that it is not open.
2 If necessary, replace the PFC power supply PCA. See Power-factor-correction (PFC) power
        supply.
3 If necessary, replace the dc controller. See DC controller.
4 If necessary, replace the engine power supply. See Engine power supply.
NOTE It is important to have the control panel functional as soon as possible in the
troubleshooting process so that the control-panel display can be used to help locate MFP
        errors.

Gentlemen thanks for all of your responses. All tests mentioned in this thread have been done as suggested several times. Voltage at wall is 117.8. Neutral to ground is .1. Removing formatter and all peripherals makes no change. I am able to print a test print from the dc controller at all times. The machine has been this way since the problem first happened. All tests always bring me back to the Engine power supply. Replacing the Engine power supply fixes the problem 100%. However, the Engine power supply keeps failing within 24 hours. Crystal Ball anyone?

I can't recall if the fuser is powered by the engine PS or not, but maybe it's taking it out..drawing too much..just a stab in the dark. Everytime I have seen it with the blooming logo and a dark screen, I've replaced the engine PS and it's never come back since. maybe a fan isn't working or a clogged air filter causing it to overheat?

I agree with ucinn, it is a possibility. And I think the fuser is powered by the engine power supply. Change the fuser with the power supply if it shows up again. It may also be surges on clients outlet but that's a stretch.

Thanks for the replies. The fuser had crossed my mind also. And if I'm not mistaken, possibly the duplex unit also. I'm waiting for my service manager to decide if we should order all new or get a donor printer and swap out all boards, fuser and duplexer. I'll update when the decision is made.
