HP- LJ-2840 will not boot up.

This customer complains about her LJ-2840 not getting ready. When I turn it on, It sounds like it is going to get ready, you can hear the carroussel turning, you can see the bar indicator on the display moving left very fast.

But... that's it. It never gets ready, the indicator never stops moving left, no errors or messages, no more mechanical movement. By the way, the scanner never moves or lights up.

    Any Ideas ?... Please.

    Bill.

I would probably never say this about any other machines than the 1500/2500/2550/2840 series printers, but...

Do yourself and your customer a favor, throw it in the nearest dumpster and get a non-carousel machine. I automatically charge 2 hours labor for those things sight unseen. Reason: Everything I've ever done other that aligning the carousel, blowing it out, or replacing the maintenance kit has ended up taking that long. Then I give the client the quote for the repair and they tell me their going to get a new one.

Check if the fuser's getting hot. If not, throw it out.
Try to print an engine test. If it doesn't print, throw it out.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

It's an old printer with no redeeming features accept maybe the cartridges were easy to fill. It'll push you over the edge.Tell him to go on ebay and pick up a cheap cp1515 printer slow but good.

It won't even make a good door stop.
