Hp coloe laserjet 1015 mfp toner cartridge

I have a question about hp's toner...
I have a friend and she used to print b/w and now is the printer telling that the toner is empty and the printer stops printing.
I found that there are a funktion called overide toner on some models but not on this one.
Can I make factory default or a nv-ram reset so the machine resets the counters or is the counters really in the chips?
What happens if I remove the chips? Can I print then or wont the printer allow it?

When the chip is removed from the toner i am sure that it wont be recognised in the printer. Most of hp devices come with an override. Have you tried the following?

Cartridge-out override can only be enabled from the control-panel menu.

1. From the main menu, press the navigation arrows to choose System setup and press OK .
2. Press the navigation arrows to choose Print quality and press OK .
3. Press the navigation arrows to choose Replace supplies and press OK .
4. Press the navigation arrows to choose Override out and press OK .
5. Press OK .

The factory default setting is Stop at out .
