HP9500 MFP Check Scanner Lock message

I have an HP9500 MFP with "Check scanner lock message" the reason for this is that the scanner motor does not move or light up when booting.
I do not get the usual 30. error codes and yes the scanner lock is off. I have noticed that the document feeder does not fire up either, further to this the scanner fan doesn't turn but still no errors! I have replaced the scanner power supply but there still doesn't seem to be any 24v coming from the copy controll board? The rest of the machine boots up ok and i can print out reports etc. The power led on the connector board is lit but not the scanb led. Has anyone changed the copy controller board or is this rare? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unfortunately that doesn't tell you what is happening or what causes it. I've seen something written about a similar problem on another machine, but I can't, for the life of me, find it. I think if you're interested in learning the cause, and don't care how much time it takes to find a solution you would start troubleshooting where the home sensor is making sure every thing is connected and clean. Do you have a sm for the ADF section of this machine (will not be in the regular sm)?
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

I was told that the issue was the communication with the scan top and the base of the equipment. Has to do with ribbon cables and the boards that connect them.

        Good luck.

I just have this problem a month ago. Replaced the c-link kabel and controller for scan on the formatter board. That dident help. It was the harddrive on the formatter that caused the problem. I booted the machine whit skip disk load and then i could make one copy from the glas plate. After this I replaced the harddrive, made and Hard disk reinitialization and updated the firmware. The printer was ok then.

Thanks for posting the cause of the problem. The HDD is an option. I usually tell techs I'm training to make sure they have removed all optional equipment before troubleshooting. Saves yourself some headaches in the long run. I've had a 4250 with no power that I replaced the power supply on, just to find out it was the network card that was bad.

Thanks for replying, it can be a number of things that can cause this message, in my case the Ram was faulty on the copy processor board, please note that this board is sensitive to non genuine Ram, you must use genuine HP ram for it to work.
