have a 4345 mfp that will not lift any trays(it is outfitted with 3 optional trays) originally could only get it to respond by unplugging the hard drive. replaced the hd which seemed to correct the problem, a week later we are back to no tray lift. has anyone seen this before? could firmware be an issue? if so, how do you update through usb? thanx

How to find out the name of your computer:- Click the Start button, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then choose System Information.
- Write down this name as it will be needed later.
- Click the Start button, Settings, then Printers and Faxes.
- Choose the radio button labeled Share this printer.
- Type a name for the share. Make it short and easy to remember.
- Click Apply and write down the share name, as it will be needed later.
- How to send the firmware upgrade using a USB connection:
- Type: copy /b filename \\computer name\share name
- For example: copy /b ljXXXXmfpfw_0X.00X.X.rfu \\computer1\HP LaserJet mfp printer
- Press Enter.
NOTE: When the upgrade process has completed the LaserJet will reboot. Once the printer is back online, print a Configuration Page and verify that the new firmware has been installed.Comment

Re: hp lj 4345mfp no tray lift
As a must for all HPs machines. Whenever you have issues, and the machine firmware can be updated, do it first before troubleshooting futher. HPs are know for their bugs and firmware are freely avaliable at their website. First print menu map and configuration page for your reference, do this for any machines you are working on that can print the configuration and status pages.
First do Hd initilize and then firmware update. If problem still persist, do cold reset. Get a service manual and read what settings will be lost ect.
ALSO, why do firmware by UBS. This machine has a built in nic port and you should use the FTP method for upgrading the firmawre, it is easy, quick and reliable.
Use a crossover cable and your laptop. When you run the downloaded exe. firmware file and run the extraction process, it creates a readme.doc file that has all the methods for f/w update and other usefull information. USB method is tedious and is troublesome, but it works.THE ONLY THING FOR EVIL TO TRIUMPH IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING..........edmund burkeComment
