    CM6030/40 CQ fault

Hi , we now have several of these with very poor copy quality in standard exposure mode. Prints are perfect. Some of these machines are brand new out of the box and others are up to 2 years old at customers. HPs techinical answer is to default to Photograph mode. Old firmware works ok but the new toner only works with the new firmware so we hit a brick wall there. The latest firmware , once installed ,cannot be downgraded.
Just trying to find how widespread this is and if anyone has the answer.

I dont know how I can help other than one thing. If you can find the setting for toner save, turn it off. I have beat my head many times only to find it was a setting. The toner save setting was on. You can get to it using the browser through the remote user interface. With it on the prints are faint and terrible.

gotcha. Looking at the manual did you try the calibration? I am just throwing out ideas, so don't take it personal. Go to Admin - Troubleshooting - Full calibration
also specify the correct paper type. what you are describing almost sounds like moisture in the paper. Also in admin-Troubleshooting-PQ Troubleshooting -print
maybe will help to figure it out. Also turn off economode the toner saver mode, there is one according to the user manual. Do you have a service manual on this?
I uploaded a user manual for you. service manual is big. something like 43 MB.

I have found that print quality issues on these units are sometimes the result of fogged optics. There are two scanner assemblies in the printer and the one that is closest to the fuser is the one that usually fogs up the worst. It is a bit of a challenge because of the nonsense involved with removing the entire document scanner assembly. It is best that for that procedure you have two people because the upper portion of this is (at least) half the entire unit's weight.
