    HP LJ4100

When putting in a toner cartridge, sometimes, the printer still calls for it to be replaced. Putting in another cartridge takes care of it. Is there a way I can do a reset to clear this and let the customer continue to use the cartridge? I looked in the op and svc. manual and could not find it. Need some help from the gurus.

make sure 'toner low=continue' is set to on. Also check your toner contacts on either side inside the cavity. If you're not sure what they are supposed to look like, look at a working one of same model (4100). A fraction of an inch bent out can cause 'no toner' indication. It can also be caused by poor-quality compatibles. Worst brand I've seen starts with a 'Q'.
LASTLY, you can do a cold reset, if that's what you're asking for. It's in the svc. man. Bear in mind it will clear any custom settings, so print out a config page first if your customer might get angry over misconfigured printer settings.

Thanks for the response. Will check contacts. Was not sure if you could override the condition. I guess a cold restart would do that. They are using compatibles. When you say it starts with a "Q", what exactly do you mean?

You're asking me to NAME NAMES???? Okay, fine. But, so as not to get sued, I'll just say Q**ll toner makes me money on service calls and toner sales. That's a fact. Because MY compatible vendor's toner works.

4100 has a chip in the middle, front section of cartridge. if it wasn't replaced (if a comp cart) then machinr won't know it is a new cartridge.

otherwise should be able to hit green go button, to get to go. assuming the cartridge has toner in it

Just found out some more info. on this. The customer put in a compatible cartridge, hit go, and printed. After print job, the message comes back. She can hit go, and print again. The cartridge we sold to the customer was a compatible we got from our supplier. Are you saying that the cartridge needs to have a chip replaced even though we get them from one of the largest suppliers. I don't know, thats why I'm asking. Let me know what you think and thanks for your help.

they should put in new chip when remanufacturing it

you can save some money if you get a catridge with just toner refilled (A load and not the X load)

do they put in new drum, drum blade, doc blade, chip clean or replace charge roller and mag roller???

                  Re: HP LJ4100

I prefer true remanufactured cartridges over refill. I have not had issues with remanufactured, but have had issues with refills. Our supplier warranty there products, so that makes it easy to get the customer to go with reman. 15 years ago I would have sold against anything but OEM. Today the manufacturing process is good. Thanks for your help on this. I think we will be seeing this customer today. Will let you know what we find.
