hp4730 streak (see attached picture) - how to fix/remove?

The streak (see picture) doesn't happen on every page; rather it seems to be random, maybe just the first page printed after the printer has been idle.

Any suggestions as to what might be causing it? And, more importantly, how to rectify?

Probably a toner cartridge; I would guess the black cartridge. Use disable cartridge mode and remove 1 cartridge at a time and test.

From the diag menu run the PQ troubleshooting test.
This will show which color is having the problem.
If the print defect shows up in all colors it may not be a cartridge problem.

Ran the PQ test; oddly, the streak only appeared on the first of the 5 pages! That JPEG is of that streak.
