    HP 4700 Colour Registration

Hi, I have a cust with a HP4700 who appears to be having Colour Registration problems, I have not seen this model before however as he is a Canon Client of ours, he sent an email with a PQ test printout which shows the Black ok in the box however the 3 Colours were lower (about 2mm) in their Boxes, he has tried the 'Colour Calibration Now' with no change, the machine is in a very dusty environment (Gold Mine), any help I can send them would be appreciated.

    Thanks Cliff.

Since you said this was in a very dirty environment, you could try cleaning the calibration sensors. If that doesn't work, you might have to replace the PIU (aka Feeder Assembly) where the sensors are located. The Feeder should come stamped with a code on it to enter in NVRAM for setting calibration. (Some refurbished parts don't though.) Also a Cold Reset might help after any of these steps. I've attached an HP document showing where the sensors are located. The abbreviation in the title, CPR, stands for Color Plain Registration. Poor CPR on plain media.pdf

Just to add my 2 cents: Sometimes it is a defective ITB (transfer belt - Q7504A), sometimes its dirty calibration sensors (blow out paper feed unit below the cartridges), other times the sensors are bad. Replace the feeder assembly as KJEpps recommended if the latter is the case.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".
