    P3005 jam tray 3

Working on P3005 LaserJet printer that has a tray 3 using legal size. Intermittant shows paper jam. Replaced the pickup roller and sep pad in both trays but still showing jams. The pickup roller rotates just fine but intermidantly does not pickup a sheet from the stack. I watch it from the back of the printer and can see the roller do a full rotation and just cannot get a good grab on the paper most of the time. It seems like possibly the plate in the tray does not apply quite enough pressure. Seems it works mostly ok when the tray is less than half full. I suspect less weight allows it to work better. I compared tray 2 to tray 3 and could not tell any different in the spring pressure. Should I replace the whole tray or is there some easy fix. I even swapped the paper roller assembly from tray 2 with tray 3 to see if it makes and difference.

Ive had this problem a couple times and it's kinda crazy; I ended up stretching the springs and that fixed it for me; May need to get new tray cause their different.

Make sure the guides aren't too tight against the paper. I had a 3035 doing this just out of tray 2, I ended up having to replace the tray to take care of the problem.

It's not the springs. I would suspect a faulty pick up roller before that and especially so if it's not oem. The customer has probably tweaked the tray.

Lol. Yeah this girl at the bank where the printer is I can safely say didn't do any tweaking. And when it comes to rubber we don't use any aftermarket. All OEM feed rollers were replaced in tray 2 and 3. Not only that but I swapped the new tray 2 roller in tray 3 for the hell of it which has been working like a champ when installed in tray 2. I replaced rollers and maintenance kit on this machine. Had over 300,000 pages on it without any maintenance. Rollers had looked like Casper the ghost and worn smooth. I was pretty confident at first that I had it fixed after replacing these parts. I will give an update after replacing the tray.

I have an extra tray on a HP1320 doing the same thing. Probably the same procedure to check as above?

Now now people, let us not make it personal. Sometimes a defective paper stop or internal spring can cause the issue. There was no need to mention rollers since he said he replaced them. These trays are just plastic. The tray in the feeder should be the same but I may be wrong about that. On some of the newer machines the tray is the same only the front is taller/shorter (I forget which). I repair trays so I know when I see it what fixes it, but to tell you off the top of my head, no. The P3005 trays are the same as a lot of other trays only the fronts are different. Tray replacement is the likely best answer unless you have another bad tray with which you can repair it from that doesn't have the same bad parts.

No one is entirely ignorant and no one is entirely a fool (with the exception of aab1), however, all of us have been ignorant and foolish at one time or another. Shake hands and make up (I'd say kiss and make up but I doubt that will happen.)

New tray did the trick. Filled it up full with paper and printed 100 pages flawlessly.

Trollolol What a dummy. Take your noobiness elsewhere. You obviously know nothing about this model, and if anything about about the mechanics of printers/copiers.

Is adding fuel to the fire really necessary? wseyller indicated what fixed the problem. That is really all that is necessary, so please, let's be professional and grown up about this. Right or wrong we are trying to help each other here, not insult people we don't even know well enough to determine their intelligence level.

Naw, I agree. But that Guy should never rule out a fix from a person who's certified on everything under the sun and has helped me fix countless machines.
