HP LaserJet 4014/4015/4515 Optional Tray R73-6009.

I have a LJ 4015 under contract inc the optional tray 3. This optional tray 3 thing doesnt feed and I cant get parts outside of the feed rollers. The tray also costs over $250. and there goes the contract. I still have one tray assembly that I replaced, and was wondering if anyone knows what goes wrong with them.

    Thanks

Does the Tray 3 try to feed and jams or does the printer not recognize tray 3?
Could be the board on tray 3 or did you recently upgrade firmware?
I had a problem with updating the firmware with the tray 3 connected it screws things up.
Just remove tray 3 and and any other accesories like duplex unit and redo firmware upgrade.

Dont buy a new unit call parts now or look on ebay. much less.

      Thanks W/B

It trys to feed the paper, maybe 1/2" or so....recognizes the tray alright...do you think a firmware update will help..I agree about buying a new one.....at the cost maybe they are built to fail!!!

Kind of sounds like the separation roller in drawer 3 might be bad. I might have missed something (sorry about that), but have you tried replacing the pickup and separation rollers?
Like I said, I might have missed something, but you did try taking the paper out of tray three to see if there was any obvious defects with the paper? Or at least turned the paper over or something?
Sorry about that, this is just stuff that would be nice to know before you replace parts for no reason.

Look in the back of the unit when it is installed and you are printing paper path tests from it. Does the paper lift to the rollers? If it doesn't it is probably a lift motor (not sure if it is the same as the printer one but worth a try). If it is lifting and the paper rollers are turning, but the paper doesn't go far and falls back in the tray, replace the torque limiter in the tray (clutch) (same as the one for the printer, BTW) and/or check for debris prohibiting it from reaching the printer registration asm. Internal workings are set up just about like the printer, so you should check the solenoid if the rollers are not turning.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".
