OK, so I have a customer who has complained several times of an awful loud noise while their CLJ M451 was printing. After several visits, we never heard the noise. Then I decided to run a cleaning page to see if that would invoke the noise and bingo! It makes a very loud rubbing/moaning sound when the printer pulls back in the cleaning page and noise is constant for most of running page through machine. With covers removed it does not seem to be related to the Dev or Drum motors and its not printing anything so I think that would rule out most of the image area. I also tested from Tray 1 with regualar printing and customer says they do not use Tray 1 often so I think that rules out Tray 1 P/U area. I called HP and got the answer, "Its prob a roller or something" and they offered to exchange or depot repair it but it would not be covered under warranty so there are charges. When I pressed the HP rep for what happens during a cleaning page cycle that would be simlar to just regular printing from Tray 2 he told me, "the rollers get squished up against each other during the cleaning page". To me it seems that the noise happens when printer slows down, but HP rep said machine should never slow down during normal printing. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: HP ColorLaserJet M451 Making Noise
As far as slowing down... I mean when the machine goes to run the pre-printed cleaning page back through machine. Everything sounds like it is running at a different speed. Couldn't get out of HP if there are any reasons that the machine during normal printing operation would run at a different speed and cause the noise. The glass maybe half full, but less is more...

Re: HP ColorLaserJet M451 Making Noise
Do they print labels or heavier stock letterhead paper? Anything where they have to change the driver settings for paper type. This may also slow down the machine. I wouldnt think it would be a motor, but maybe there's an issue with the fuser? How often does she run cleaning pages?Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".Comment
