    HP LJ 4200

I have a friend that asked the following: The printer is indicating to replace the cartridge. Did not ask them if the printer was not operational once the message appeared. I assumed it was not based on their question. The question is " How can they overide this message and run the cartidge till it completely runs out?

You can PM me the answer if you don't want it public knowledge, which I personally prefer.

Most HP LJ's you can just shake the toner cartridge to get extra life out of it! Not a state secret, pretty much common knowledge especially for the older units.

Thanks bilyahn. They did take it out and shake it the first time a few weeks ago. Today it will not allow them to print at all. I may have found a solution to allow them to run the cartridge untill its really empty. Cartridge low set to continue and cartridge out set to continue. What do you think? This will not matter because they will call me when they get void streaks anyway. At which time I will tell them to replace the cartridge.

Sounds like you have it covered. Not sure about the settings that you mentioned.

        Good luck.

If they shock the cartridge 2 weeks ago they are lucky it's not streaking now. Hate to say it but are they cheap or what.

Try removing the chip on the cartridge. You will get a message possibly similar to a 10.10.10 memory supplies error after inserting cartridge but should be able to press go to continue. Without the chip there is no toner loading program to monitor usage. Not sure what result you will get exactly but it is worth a try. At worst the chip should have enough adhesive left to just stick it back on.

You are right, they are cheap. This is their personal home printer. For a commercial customer, I would say replace the cartridge.
