HP 4650 Belt slid off to the left

I installed a rebuilt belt in a HP 4650 color printer two months ago and the customer called me to say the belt was damaged. I got out there and it clearly is way off to the left by an inch or more and it got damaged by a metal clip. Has anyone seen this happen before? It was a rebuilt unit from my local supplier. They are saying it only has a 30 day warranty!

Ive used refurbished belts and that has bever happened; Obvious lack of quality control.
They should definetly replace it cause some kid cant rebuild them right it isnt your fault.

Re: HP 4650 Belt slid off to the left

I was thinking I would give the used (50% life left) replacement belt I installed today a little while before drawing a definite conclusion? I did measure where it was sitting with a level and it was dipping off to the left and front quite a bit. Where it was sitting was not intended for something this heavy, it was next to a large opening where a chair goes in with plenty of room on both sides. I put a full 3' x 3" yellow sticky pad under the foot and it pretty much did the trick. So maybe that caused the belt to run off the track after two months? I know for a fact it can happen to large Canon copiers, the 5150 I believe, because I was involved with a repair much like this a couple of months ago and the tech bulletin was all about getting the machine level. There does not seem to be much of a guide to prevent it from happening that I could see. However, it was noted by the customer that the old belt never had a problem like this, it just went past the 200K mark and the service message came on if I remember correctly. I will be reporting back but it will be awhile probably. Thanks for your help and any future comments or observations!

I rebuild these all the time, they installed the belt wrong . It is defective. Return it to the vendor for credit.

Hey thanks for this info also. In the lower right there is what might be described as a clearish, sticky, rubber or plastic roller part that looks like it is stripped or off-track a little. Could this be what caused the belt to slide to the left and get ruined? I want to get the supplier to refund me and if I can prove to them it was a bad rebuild then maybe thery can get their money back from their parts rebuilder? I am hestitant to name them in public, they have been faily good up to this point. The replacement used belt has been doing fine so far.

That is one of the underside rubber strips on either side of the belt that holds the belt in place and keeps it from shifting. The fact that it has come off the belt indicates that the belt in that unit is toast. As I've said before, one of the rollers were installed backwards. This causes the belt to "wander" off to one side. THEY did it wrong. Do not buy belts from people who do it wrong. We have a 6 mo warranty on ours.

Thank you many times over, I am trying to negotiate some kind of partial credit from the parts place due to the proof you and other kind techs have provided! I will post the result. In the mean time, if i need a belt I will contact you but I will need your company name if you can let me know here or pm me.
