[Jamming] HP CM6040 - tray 2 lift failure

    Hey all,

I have just had a machine in for this fault (I believe)

Huge groaning sound when tray 2 is pushed in and then the machine tells me to check the tray for paper. Presumed it was the tray 2 lifter motor assy so I have ordered one up.

Customer has now said another machine is beginning to show the same symptoms! Is this a common fault on this model?

On the back of tray two cassette there is a small gear that turns the large tray lift gear. The piece of plastic that holds the small gear in place cracks or no longer has enough tension to hold the gear in place properly this causes the noise and lift error (the rectangle hole that holds the gear in place should be tight on the gear shaft). I've had at least 6 trays with this problem and replaced under warranty. I did fix one by cutting a small piece of plastic and bridging across the three prongs of the holder which held the retainer in place. This could be the problem you are experiencing.

Thanks Sheppard, I will have to double check that housing then if it has caused you that much hassle in the past!

I did have a look at the time but I couldn't spot anything obvious other than the lift mechanism on the cassette did feel pretty tight.

Sheppard is spot on, most of the handful of ones we have had this happen...it seems to be very common with this model.

Thanks for the advice, I will certainly be watching the paper cassettes from now on.

Fitted the lifter assembly and that solved the issue.
