[Misc] HP Officejet 8500A Using excessive Magenta Toner

    Hi all,

I have to go check out an HP Officejet 8500A printer with the following issues :

THE EU STATES THAT THE PRINTER WILL INDICATE THE MAGENTA CART IS LOW, HE CHANGES THE CART AND TWO DAYS LATER IT IS EMPTY AGAIN. HE CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE IN WEIGHT BUT HAS NO IDEA WHERE THE TONER IS GOING.

Other than the obvious "operator headspace & timing" issues, what else might check on this?

I mean that it should not be using ink that fast, (doubt the ink is leaking or they would have said that they were getting smearing or streaking).

Could it be a faulty connector inside the machine causing the Magenta to read low after a couple days??

Thanks for any insight on this.

Don't think an office jet would have toner.

Yeah I know its actually an inkjet, but I am going off the EU's description of the issue, so I have to
wait and see on that part.

However, I still need to figure out why its using so much Magenta (or is it just a faulty sensor?) lol

      Thanks

I get a call every few months where a customer complains of excessive ink use. So far, every time, it's been a case where the customer just uses a lot of ink and can't accept it. Possibly someone just printed a lot of pages with a lot of red in them. I predict you'll have to face the scrutinizing eyes of a disbelieving customer (one who knows so much more than you) tomorrow.

          Thanks Engle,

I can only hope that is all it is.

I was thinking the same thing, more or less.

I was figuring that they were not realizing that it had been several days or even weeks since replacing it.

But we will see when I get there.

I am sure I can figure it out somehow.

If the customer bought the supplies themselves, the ink may have been sitting on the shelf in their supply cabinet for a long time. I've had issues on DesignJets where the user replaces the ink, and then says it's out a day later. When looking at the old ink cartridge package the 'Use By' date is a good seven or eight years old!

Could also be they tried to go the cheap route with one of those ink refill companies. Sometimes it's not worth the supposed cost savings...

              Thanks RTH!!

I hope its something so simple.

Just hope the cartridges are not expired and leaking inside!!!

That will be a BIG mess!!!

The customer run the Maintenance Printhead Cleaning pocedure many times after they replaced Mg cartridge?that will consume ink, those cartridges had a chip on underneath. The 940 XL cartridges are better, more ink.
