I wanted to clean the mirrors on a 4345. I've never really had to do this before, but this was a very dirty environment. I took the 3 screws that hold the board on the back of the scanning unit--the one that has the electronic camera mounted to it. Now, I can't get it to work at all. I notice that the 3 screws allow the board to float around a lot. Is it possible to adjust it so that you can know it's in the right position? I've got a new scanner on order, but now the machine is down and customer is angry.

Re: 4345 scanner unit problem
If what I think is going on here is, it's kind of unlikely that scanner will ever be 100% again. I've never had one of those scanners apart, so I'm not sure though.
But aligning the electronic camera, the CCD and lens assembly is done at the factory with precision jigs and laser beams, and there is no official field adjustment on any of the machines I've ever worked on.
(I stupidly moved the CCD portion of the scanner in a 3M 2110 fax machine years ago, and after a couple of hours of excruciatingly small random free hand adjustments I got the machine to work fairly well, but I wouldn't recommend that to anyone.) -
