    HP Design Jet 10000s

I have this printer that's having a problem with magenta. At first it would have banding, then after some cleaning, recovery and washing it would be fine. So when i commenced printing, its printing well... after half feet of printing, magenta starts to have banding, fades, until no more magenta coming out. When i make a recovery again, i will have those bandings again. Until some retries of printhead recovery, it becomes ok again and goes the cycle when i make prints. It seems like its losing ink during the course of printing and yet its not replenishing whatever needs to be replenish, the ink inside the head or the secondary tank. And not showing any errors as well.

Anybody knows about this problem or have come across this scenario?

Sounds like you might want to budget for a new print head.
But before you buy one, how many feet or meters of paper have you printed?

Since magenta is the only having the problem. We tried to make a print of pure magenta only, after 7 inches of printing, starts to have white bands. After 8 inch, comes more white, until on the 10th inch just a small lines of magenta left, almost nothing.

Sorry, I should have stated that better.
What is the total length of paper that you have printed on through the machine?
The reason I'm asking is that if the print head isn't replaced at the end of its service life, sometimes the first problems I've seen are with single colors. As such, it sounds like you are describing a worn out print head.

Hi Iowatech.... I cant tell you the total length of paper that was printed already on this machine. But here's what we did. We swapped the Magenta Head with the Light Magenta Head, the Magenta print now is ok, and the Light Magenta print has now banding. So we concluded its the Printhead problem. But later, after a couple of days, the LM print is starting to become OK and the M print starts to have the banding again. So i think this is not from the head totally.

Unfortunately, it still looks like the print head needs to be changed.
Sometimes when it reaches the factory based end of life rating, some parts of the print head will continue working correctly. Others will not. That is why there is why there is a factory based end of life rating, so that the print head can be replaced before random and unexpected things happen.
Hopefully in the fullness of time you can find the total paper length that has been fed through the machine, as if the print head failed before its rated lifetime you could possibly get a warrantee replacement. Otherwise you will need to buy the machine a new print head. Sorry about that, I know print heads are kind of expensive.

Before changing it, you may want to check the ink tubes for air bubbles, and if you see them, get a set of set up heads to bled the air out. I have encountered that a lot on other models.

Thanks for the replies guys, so far the printing is OK, not at its best but OK enough. I'll let it like this for some time then just ask for the head if it happens again.

So far air bubbles are not there. So also started to doubt the pumping system for the Magenta. Since after swapping the head of M and LM, LM starts to be ok after a few run and M starts to have white bands appearing.

I'll continue to observe and will get back here..

                Thanks much
