    HP 5000 Windows 7 driver

I have a missionary friend in Cuba who wants to use a HP5000 on a Win7 computer. I have read horror stories on the HP site on the difficulties in doing this. I am sending him a USB to parallel cable so that further complicates the process. Can anyone help me help him? Are some of you using the Xerox Global Print Driver?

when you do add printer in windows 7 select local port, then pick existing port lpt1(or follow directions that hopefully came with the usb/parallel cable) the next window that comes up is the one with all the printer manufacturers and drivers, there is a button on that screen that says windows update(your friend will need to have internet access)press that button and the pc will download drivers from Microsoft. I did it on my laptop just now and there is a hp lasejet 5000 driver. before I did it only had the 5200 driver in the list. I usually do this for older printers to see if Microsoft has the driver, when the manufacturer doesn't provide the driver. Also on HP website they have the Universal print driver for this older printer. There used to be issues with the universal driver from HP , but I hear the latest version is much better.
