[Jamming] HP 4700 13.01 Jam In Tray 2

    Hello everyone,

I have an HP 4700 that is throwing a Jam in Tray 2 with error code 13.01. Typically this error is caused by paper that is bad in some way or a worn pickup roller. Neither are true in this case.

When trying to print, I can hear the motor try and turn the paper input unit in the machine, but it has a low moan or groan (however you want to describe it) to it. To me it sounds like it cant turn the PIU. I think it is an issue with either the paper feed drive assembly or the PIU itself, but not certain off hand which one it is more likely to be. The paper doesnt even begin to move out of the tray before it jams. I know the tray lifter is working, I verified that. I know the tray itself is lifting.

Anyone on here have experience with this?

Are you sure the paper size setting is right? Sometimes the paper slides back in the drawer and the machine groans as the PU roller rubs against the sep pad.

I apologize, you very clearly said tray 2, which doesn't have a sep pad. If the rollers are spinning properly, you might look at the torque limiter.

The PIU on the 4700 do go out but usually its a 13.02 error. I would definitely try the PIU its a quick and painless replacement so...

Turned out to be the PIU. Thanks for your help all of you.
