    hp 4700

    hi all,

need help with hp4700 counter. client is using windows 7 64bit with hp universal printing PS (V5.5.0) driver for hp4700. they print slides on bondpaper with text and pictures using powerpoint 2007 and use pure black and white settings, it will count as color print in the usage page. grayscale would count as color also. how do we make it count as mono in the usage page?

    Re: hp 4700

up for help. do hp color printers use color toner even if black and white or grayscale settings is used? maybe this is the reason why cyan, yellow and magenta toner is low already. info about hp4700 says estimated black toner yield is 11k and color is 10k each. estimated color prints my client had is 3k-4k but what is left for color toner is estimated 25% yellow, 25% magenta and 15% for cyan.

    any comments or suggestions?

From what I understand is that Actually, if you select the "print in grayscale" option, it will print using only the black toner cartridge. This printer has a feature that allows the color developers to disengage from the imaging drums; printing only in black.
in the rear of the machine it has cams which move up and sepereate the OPC and deleveper unit and gearing so the OPC turns but no colour
is placed onto OPC and laid to page.

But i have heard this does not always work and a easy way to check if colour is being laid under black is to firstly run a supplies status page from the menu of printer.
this will give you all the info per cartridge and yields etc.

then try running 10 pages in "Grayscale" only and then print of a supplies status page.
if the colour info for colour cartridges has gone up / changed by pages printed then colour is still clearly being used.

if you have a loop glass you can also view to see if colour has been used to have mixed black and not true black.

also there is a setting under NEUTRAL GRAYS:
Black only printing.... using only black..!

yes i have tried that setting under neutral grays but when we print using grayscale it will count as color print under usage page report. in the usage page we see how many were printed in mono and color.

Very strange indeed, as said appears colour is being laid down too.

What setting do you have set under SYSTEM SET UP MENU .

          For printing Black mix...?

is it set for Mostly black.
or one of the other settings.

it was set as auto. there are 3 choices: auto, mostly black or mostly color.

maybe this is the solution: use PS driver when printing color and use PCL6 driver when printing black since PCL6 driver can only print black and not color based on what we have downloaded from hp driver's website.
