When we print from this machine, copy quality is excellent. However when wencopy or scan a document, when it comes out, about an inch from the side is all faded, like a big white streak along the side of it. So naturally we figured it has to be the optics on the scanner since the printer copy quality is great. So we cleaned the optics, and nothing changed. Changed the white plastic and film on the bottom of the doc feeder, nothing. Took the optics unit apart to clean all the mirrors, nothing. Then we just replaced the whole optics unit, still nothing! Then we just started checking everything. Changed the whole toner and drum, nothing. Changed the fuser, nothing. Any body have any ideas what could be causing this?!

I don't know if this is your issue or not, but there is a scanner controller PCA that sits behind the scanner assembly. I've had this board cause problems on occasion. If that doesn't do it, your next step is the entire scanner flatbed assembly as unfortunately they don't sell just the scan unit.Comment

Re: HP Laser Jet M4345 MFP
Got it! After going through all of that we ended up just cleaning the laser unit inside the machine, which we didn't believe would help since the copy quality on everything else was great. But that did the trick! thanks for all the adviceComment
