    P4015 formatter issues

I have several of these that will not upgrade firmware. We tried copying using ftp from explorer and we get an an error on the pc after a few minutes. We also tried using Web jet with the same results.

The machine will boot to ready, it just won't take the upgrade. we are thinking of trying to do it via usb, just need to figure out how.

We also have at least one with an error that says send upgrade over usb developer port.

Any advice on that? Have not tried sending over usb port, need to figure out how.

Does anyone know or is there a manual that indicates what all the options are in the menu with clear rfu errors? There is run from boot image, copy to slot, etc

If it boots to ready, why are you updating firmware?

Is there a reason why you don't go here for firmware? Sounds like you are going through a lot of unneeded work and stress otherwise. Although you do need to read and understand the "Readme" file.

Not sure what you mean? We obviously get firmware from the HP site. ftp is very easy, just put in the address in Internet Explorer and copy the firmware over.

Anyone have experience with these not upgrading properly?

I had one that wouldn't upgrade. I tried both FTP and USB. But I don't remember what my initial problem was or why I was trying to upgrade. Anyway, I ended up changing the formatter. I usually try to stay away from firmware upgrades unless there's specifically something wrong. If something bad happens during an upgrade then you're forced to buy a formatter.

            1. Turn on the product to be recovered. The product control-panel should display one of the following messages:
RFU Load Error: Send RFU Upgrade on USB dev port
Inflate Error: Send RFU Upgrade on USB dev port
CRC Check Error: Send RFU Upgrade on USB dev port
The error above will be quickly followed by the following message:
Download file now: Send RFU Upgrade on USB dev port
When the product displays the above message, it is ready to accept the firmware upgrade.
            2. Connect a USB cable between the product and the computer to be used for the recovery.
            3. Use the following steps to create the print path from the computer to the HP LaserJet product.
            a. From the Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard screen, select No, not this time and then click the Next button.

I don't understand why you don't use HP's Easy Firmware Upgrade Utility. It's all I've ever used, and it has worked every time for me. You don't even need network connectivity, just the USB port and print driver - the utility sends the firmware to the machine just like it was a print job.
