    [Error Code] HP CM4540mfp 99.07.20 firmware upgrade error

    I've got a HP CM4540mfp. At first the fax quit and gave a fax error. Modem was replaced and firmware update was downloaded. We were getting the 99.07.20 firmware upgrade message after updating FW. We've since re updated FW, replaced Hard drive and new FW and still get this message. The "lock/unlock" options for hard drive were not accessible. We've updated it using walk up USB, rear USB and Web admin. Also, the fax button is grayed out and we have all the initial setup info installed (ie: header, number, etc). Thinking of moving to formatter replacement.
    Anyone have any ideas?

      So you're getting the error only when you try to upgrade, or is the machine essentially dead now?

      I've had a number of problems with firmware related errors with these. Sometimes an upgrade works, sometimes I have to replace the formatter.

          It's been since the upgrade. I don't think you can go backwards once a version has been installed, unless I'm wrong. We're thinking Formatter too, since it's about the only thing left. Just trying everything before putting more cost into it.

              I don't know how much this will help, but the read me file for the newest firmware has some info on the 99.07.20 error code in the enhancements section. Looks like the newest version (for Win 7 anyway) is dated 12 December 2014.

                  Thanks for the reply. Yeah I'd seen that too. We joked that it must install that error on the upgrade. Thanks again.
