Hp color LJ 3600 keeps saying open close front door the cartridges are not engaged

when I first picked this up I saw on the left side of the black cartridge guide through the frame a white lever that looked out of place. I removed the left cover, and the board, and sure enough part #rc1-7618-000 was broke in about 3 places the spring was laying at the bottom of the frame and the sliding lever that those little levers are connected to was out of track at the top. Well I just got the everything in place and broken parts replaced, but I get the same message. Now I must be missing something, any ideas.

    thanks in advance.

No not really why....oh the above comment well when you get a snarky comment from a 16 post wanna been troll why not post a snarky comment back. I have been working on office equipment since 1995 I started with konica and minolta before they were konica/minolta, by 98 or 99 i started working on canon the last 5 years have been for a canon and copy star dealer. I do on occasion have to work on odds and ends and this is one of those. Yes i have the manuals, but no I don't know a lot about hp and how they cam up the cartridges. Yes I know this is a pos and should be upgraded, but it is for a small city school in a not so rich.....well lets just call it what it is a POOR neighborhood and the school system tends to neglect them. So my boss often works of the odd ball stuff for FREE and this is one of those jobs. I was trying to not spend so many hours on this but it appears, that maybe i should have posted this on smarka at least there I know there will be a snarky comment or 5

I think it was a comment on the over-all machine... the fact that there are so many hard to find problems with the ctg alignment.

Most instructions on replacing that plastic piece show you how to line up the gears (don't forget to check the white connection levers on the right and the black levers on the left).

What a lot of the instructions don't tell you is that there are those gears that drive the cargridge engaging shafts (I don't know the precise language used here)... they have to be set up correctly. The gears should be turned until the solenoid clicks into place and they can't be turned anymore... or rather, turning the gear does not move the shaft anymore. Then look at the shaft and make sure it's in the right position (you should be able to see how it's supposed to be from pdf instructions you can find anywhere). If it's upside down, actuate the solenoid and then do it again, so it's right side up. Do it once for the black ctg, then do it again for the color ctgs. If you follow the gear alignment procedures you find online, and then do this, everything should line up perfectly.
