    HP CM4540 ERROR 49.38.07

    Hi Customer called with 49.38.07 code.Im good with some things,but when it comes to computer and firmware issues Im a lost soul.The machine is bring shared on network with 4 computers,To upgrade firmware can I do it from any one of customers computers,or are they better off having their IT guy do this?I have usually left upgrades to the computer people so as not to screw up someones system.     Upgrade f/w, make sure ip,subnet mask and gateway are correct. Check dns and win server primary and secondary and anything else to do with the network.

      I think on those you'll have to use a USB drive. Unplug the network cable from the printer and turn it off and on... see if the message comes up when it's not on the network. If it does, I don't think you can do a firmware upgrade, because it has to be in ready state. You're probably looking at a new formatter. But you might try this:

      1. Turn printer on and watch when the display shows memory count, press and hold the down arrow until all three lights on the control panel are lit.2 Press the up arrow
      3 Press the home button, the message Skip disk load will display.
      4 press the up arrow till NVRAM INIT is highlited.
      5 Press the OK button
      If it doesn't come up until AFTER you plug in the network cable, then you'd be able to update the firmware with a usb drive:

        One other thing - a 49.XX.XX error can be caused by a bad print job. If possible, have the IT guy clear the print queue first and see if the error goes away.
