    Kyocera FS-1135MFP Fax help?

question, i don't know how to send receive a fax. i have contacted the people at Kyocera and they weren't very helpful. i have the printer at my house, it was in an office before probably that had a dedicated fax line. now that the printer is at my house i have 1 line but there is a fax number and a phone number attached to it. not sure what that is called, but currently i have a brother printer and when a fax comes through with the line from the wall plugged into the line on the brother printer/fax it works. if i remove the line that is plugged into the brother fax and put into the Kyocera printer/fax in the line spot on the back or top nothing happens. the people at Kyocera said plug the line in and that's all i have to do but it doesn't work. but if i plug it back in the brother they were able to send a fax with no issues. i am wondering if there is a setting i have to do but they can't tell me?? hopefully someone else can.

    thank you

DRPD (distinctive ring pattern detection) – A fax feature that can detect a distinctive ring (one phone line can have two phone numbers assigned to it, each with a distinctive ring) and answer only on select rings.

RX Setting Select the reception mode.
Value: Auto (Normal), Auto (FAX/TEL), Auto (Answering Machine), Manual,
    Auto (DRD)
If Auto (DRD) is selected, select the DRD Pattern.
Value: Pattern 1 (Normal Ring), Pattern 2 (Double Ring),
    Pattern 3 (Short-Short-Long), Pattern 4 (Short-Long-Short)
DRD reception mode is available for some countries.

1 Press the System Menu/Counter key.
2 Press the  or  key to select [FAX].
    3 Press the OK key.
4 Press the  or  key to select [Reception].
    5 Press the OK key.
6 Press the  or  key to select [RX Settings].
    7 Press the OK key.
8 Press the  or  key to select the desired receiving
    mode.
9 Press the OK key. Proceed to the next step if you
    selected [Auto(DRD)] in step 11.
10 Press the  or  key to select the DRD Pattern.

    Pattern 1 Normal Ring
    Pattern 2 Double Ring
    Pattern 3 Short-Short-Long
    Pattern 4 Short-Long-Short

bsm2 - you are very help. is the DRPD feature a setting i must set first since he has (one phone line can have two phone numbers assigned to it, each with a distinctive ring) and answer only on select rings. one of the phone numbers is the home number and the other number is fax line. so i will set it to DRD following your instructions above. how do i know what ring pattern to setup. i thought he told me now when the line is hooked up to his brother fax it goes ring, ring pause 3 times.

hopefully my questions aren't dumb as i have no idea what i am doing when it comes to the fax side of this machine. all the other functions no issues.

      Thank you

Contact your phone company they will provide you the ring pattern that they use
