I don't have the service manual for this printer and i haven't had to deal with network issues. However, the service manual for the X832 says the following (I wouldn't think it would be too different):

    970-
    979
    Standard Network
    Network Card X
The following errors indicate a failure with the network card in the
    specified slot. X=any card installed in slots 1,2 or 3. 975 -
Unrecognizable Network Card x. Replace Network Card x.
976 - Unrecoverable software error in Network Card x.
977 - Controller software detects that a Network Card is installed
in slot x but cannot establish communications with it.
978 - Bad checksum while programming Network Card x.
    Replace Network Card x.
979 - Flash parts failed while programming Network Card x.

I hope the above helps you.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

976.xx Network Error The system detected an
      unrecoverable software error in
      network port

Could be a bad NIC card. I have seen a few of this model have bad op panels which can cause 900 errors. Also might wanna check your port settings.

And yes, Lexmark tech support is a JOKE. The only ones worth anything are the level 3 guys, and good luck getting to them.
