I am having a problem with a 463 where it seems that the pick arm for the paper tray seems to be slamming down and then back up intermittently. A message will appear on the screen saying the tray is out of paper but, as soon as you select that the tray has paper and to continue, the printer will continue printing. This seems to be intermittent but now is becoming more frequent. Has anyone come across this issue before?

yes,,, common,,, replace the acm feed assy and replace the feed clutch (u have to remove the clutch to get the feed assy out anyway.)
the bevel gears inside the feed assy will break and cause a loud clicking noise or what your describing -
