Ricoh MP2851 can receive faxes but not send

    Hello

My client has a Ricoh MP2851. The machine is working fine and has been doing so for many years. In the past 2 or 3 days the client says that they can receive faxes but not send.

I tried calling the Ricoh fax machine from a normal telephone and I do get a fax start tone

Does anyone have idea why ?

    Thank you

hand dial from machine to recheck the number.
recheck fax settings on machine auto answer etc...

    Something changed!

have you tried it yourself or listened to the line? No, you may have to be a tech and visit client.

Can you dial out using a standard analog phone?

If so, does it require a 9 or not.

Is the fax configured correctly to dial correctly accordingly.

PS- You need to go to the machine and select fax > on hook, and you should hear a modem sound. If not:

          - make sure the phone line is plugged in.

          - check the phone line with a phone line test set. If you don't have one, you can use an analog phone to dial out. Anyone working on faxes really needs a test set. It saves a lot of frustration and arguing with the end user.

If you can dial out with no problem, make sure the fax settings are correct.

If it still doesn't work, it's probably the fax board.

Thanks guys for your help. My boss put this post up but I'll be going to the client on Monday morning.

Forgot to mention when the client put the phone on , on hook, there was no dial tone.

Your calling the fax number is not going to do anything for you. The complaint is that it is not sending.

As Billy said you need to go to the machine and select fax > on hook, and you should hear a modem sound.
              1. If not, try connecting a butt set to the line jack and see if you have a dial tone there. If not, the problem if with the dial tone provider.
              2. If you do, try dialing 9. That should break dial tone. If it reorders dial tone, the the machine in behind a PBX.
              3. Try dialing you cell phone.

Worst case scenario is you will need to replace the fax board. I had one call where both the phone line was bad, no dial tone, and the fax board was bad.

If behind a PBX dialing 9 gives you an outside line, i.e. reordered dial tone.

Some phone systems require you to dial 9 to connect to an outside line.

Btw, that call you mentioned where the phone line was bad, no dial tone and fax board was bad, it must have been hectic

Thank you Sir. In South Africa its 0. We dial 0 to get an outside sometimes. Depending on the telephone systems. I will definitely try that.

I never worked a phone line/fax in South Africa. It's on my to-do list, tho.

Good luck. Let us know what you find.
