I need to replace several printers and I want to try and avoid the "buy cheap, maintain expensive" model that's been foisted on us in the past by managers who can't see the difference between a $1k printer and a $5k printer other than purchase price.
Thankfully, producing a spreadsheet showing 5 year operational expenses for any given model has made the point to management that buying small printers is a false economy.
I've got a whole list of printers onhand and I want to hear reports about reliability/quality from those who actually matain the things, not the salesfolk.
We print 10-20,000 pages per printer per month, mostly on HP CLJ 5550 and 4700 units.
Consolidation isn't much of an option as the printers are in different buildings. HP printers are not on the list for consideration as their PS emulation is broken.
So, for that kind of volume, what would you use, and why?
