    [Wanted] Xerox 4000 copier

    Hello.

Anyone know of a Xerox 4000 copier for sale? This model was introduced in early 70's. I'm a big fan of old Xerox machines. In the 80's I operated a Xerox 9400 and 9500. I'll guess there's not much chance of get a hold of a 4000, but I'll give it a try here

    Best regards,
    Eric

I launched the xerox 4000 in 1971. I was in charge of a major retrofit program called k5/k8 relay rewire. Later, we launched the 4500 and 5400 with sorters. I have not seen one in 25 years, but I am sure one of the brokers has one rat-holed in a warehouse.Try Canam, JJBender, or one of the other brokers. I also serviced the 9200/9400/9500/9700, 7000 in the 70,s and 80,s, before helping design the 5090, Docutech versions, then retiring in 1991. I trained xerox machines until 2010 in my own business.

Thanks for your reply. Interesting to know that you launched the 4000 in 1971 :-) I will try to contact some of the brukers that you mentioned.

                    Hi There

Did you ever get a 4000 copier?

I used to work on these and had to have a car full of spares just to repair these machines. Have relaced nearly part during the time I serviced them. The last one I saw was at the Xerox training 'University' about 15 years ago.

Would be interested to hear how your doing with it.

That's pretty cool. You guys are living historians. I wonder what it would be like to be the "first" to do something when the world hasn't seen it before...

The Xerox 4000 was the first "electronic" machine in the field, long before the offshore companies came out with their little copiers. We had to learn electronics, transistors, Boolean algebra, and electronic schematics with and/or gates, flipflops, etc.. This was new for us in 1971, where we only used relays and swithches before this. The 4000 was launched in 1971, the 4500 in 1973. the 4500 had sorters built in. At this time, we were kings in the field of copiers, then in the late 70,s, the japanese started selling small copiers , with many of Xerox,s patented technology. Incidentally, the name Xerox comes from xero,(dry) graphine (writing), xerography
