Canon CP 1700 printer service & parts pls

I have a customer that is tring to give me more business, so they asked
if I could fix their CP 1700 inkjet printer. They said the film came out.
It is probably the carriage belt. Having the manual would help.

I was sure the customer told me it was a Canon. It turns out to be an HP
CP 1700. I reconnected the strap and it started printing.
What is the purpose of the strap?
