    Bad grounding or something?
I've had 3or 4 of the smaller mfp's where a tech tried to change a board and things got worse' or dead. You would think it was a TIP (tech induced problem) but 3 different tech's all very experianced. Also it sounds like you have the Fiery versions of the 3640???

      That is ominous...
I currently have two of these machines that I am working on, and because they are so easy to reach various components, I had thought about switching boards out to deduce the problem, but now I am a little hesitant...lol.

Yes, they have the Fiery controller onboard.

I am now getting back to this machine, uninstalled the Fiery and getting a "communication error" that it was showing on initial boot-up. The service manual says:

      HTML Code:
      b)"Communication Error" is displayed

      CU PCB Malfunction

Does the LED lightup normally? (PWR_GOOD Green: Light ON, DIAG_LED3-
0 Red: Light OFF, FPGA_LED Green: Light ON) sequential order of BYN PCB (optional), HMK PCB, RAM_DIMM, and HDD. Does the Light On state vary? If the LED Light On state is Normal, replace the applicable part. If light ON is not normal, then replace PCB.
I have looked through both manuals (e.g., find text command) and still unsure what the CU PCB is (I assumed the board with the Fiery, but then again that's what I assumed the "ASP PCB" is--damned acronyms).
By no means does this discredit Paul for manufacture-based-manual-vagaries

There is more, but this really isn't the right area to get into this; I will make another post elsewhere tonight (if I have enough energy, otherwise in the morning).
Tonerbomb, if you have any immediate ideas I am all "eyes,"
