BH C220 CQ - Background on copies from platen only

This is a new one for me, hoping somebody else has seen it and can offer insight:

Received a used C220 with ~100k. Internal prints look good, ADF prints look good (aside from some skew), but copies off the platen have significant background/shadows. Strangely, if you copy a 2-sided original off the platen, the 2nd side appears as a shadow in the print. Almost looks as if the scan lamp is too bright, allowing the 2nd side to show through. There are no lamp adjustments, as far as I can tell. Scan reference strip is clean, mirrors and lamp are clean. Performed total clear, reset copy settings to factory default, loaded latest base f/w. No change.

I've seen funny things happen with bent scanner frames, but this one looks pretty square to my eye. SKMBT_C22015121020240.pdf

There is a bit of skew there, which fits with the bent scanner theory. Will it complete a calibration? If no, that also fits with a bent scanner frame. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
