Question iR ADV C5051 - Install a new HDD

    Happy New Year!

    I have a 5051 with a failed HDD,

I have a new HDD and am ready to install but am unsure of the exact procedure... Do i need to use SST or can i load system info from a USB stick?

(this is my first time ever swapping out a hard drive)

    Thanks for any help!

What exactly was the error code ???? or screen symptoms -
on this series sometimes a e602 involves just replacing the
    MAIN CONTROLLER PCB ASS'Y, 1
    or 2 Memory DIMMs

U need a HHD that is Canon OEM or same as in printer

on a New HDD install u need to use the SST=
reason is> it needs to be formatted with HDFormat.ift file first-- before new firmware is loaded

u need the iAC5051_V2_v69.03.03 Firmware downloaded into SST

You can also load the firmware onto a usb stick, then boot up holding 2 and 8

As the las post says the hdd needs to be from canon or it wont work.

    Sorry,,,

believe u can now use a USB models firmware to Format new HDD

also the firmware that is loaded on USB firmware file is differant than the SST firmware file / procedure is also differant-

some device models have USB firmware that can be downloaded, then extracted to a certain folder and finally dragged to a usb thumb drive that has sufficient space to accommodate the system software files.

MMm i actually can't recall what the original 602 error was...

what i did was remove the HDD and gave it to our companies parts person and she ordered me a new one.

I (very naively) assumed that because it was ordered from canon, and i asked that it be specific for the 5051 machine, that the HDD would already be formatted, and good to go. I thought i would be able just to swap it out.

I did just that and now the error code is 602-4000.

I just not entirely sure the steps required to perform an overall format.

HDD's are not formated nor do they have the printers frimware loaded on them.

u need to format it> then load the firmware

1- need the SST Program loaded on PC or Laptop
2- need the Printers SST Firmware downloaded into location (example) (C:\Canon File Folder\SST System Software Folder\SST Files) & then registered in the SST
3- select model>then u need to format the HDD \by selecting Format in SST Program
4- next is to select model>load the firmware on HDD using SST (see next)

    5-USE THE ALL_HDF Batch file
The ALL_HDF is to be used after an HD Format has been performed or a HDD replaced. The ALL_HDF is not designed to perform the HD Format.
The ALL_HDF is intended for use when a HDD has been formatted with HDFormat or when a new service part HDD has been installed (i.e. there is no working system installed).

    ------------------------------------------------------
    OR--

1- need the SST Program loaded on PC or Laptop
2- then U need the Printers USB Firmware that can be downloaded on PC or Laptop,>
then extracted to a certain folder (example) (C:\Canon File Folder\SST System Software Folder\USB Files) and finally dragged to a USB thumb drive

    USB Way example shown:
The process is performed in this manner:
    1. Perform Shutdown procedure and switch the copier OFF (if it does not switch OFF automatically.)
    2. Insert the previously prepared USB thumb drive to an available USB port at the back of the device.
    3. While pressing the 2 and 8 keys, turn the copier ON.
    4. At this point, the progress bar will briefly display, followed by the "---Download Mode---" screen, which will then change to the USB Download Menu (Figure 1). Choose the action from the options menu presented. Finally, power the device OFF when prompted, and then ON again to complete the system software upgrade.

    Figure 1. Download Menu options

    Figure 2. Choose options [1] -- [4].

    Figure 3. Follow on-screen directions.

    excellent,

thanks for the advice. I prefer to use the USB method.

this was really helpfull... also, i hope this fixes the problem and i don't have to replace the main controller.

Question Re: iR ADV C5051 - Install a new HDD

HHmmm. Can't i just download the files directly to the USB? Is extracting the Files via SST necessary?

It has to be registered through SST before it will work?

    NO/
U can just download the USB C5051 file and go to USB
C5051 folder location > drag into USB

but u can't drag the SST File C5051 Folder into a USB-

or if u have the C5051 Firmware registered in SST > u can download that to USB from within the SST PROGRAM---SEE BELOW

After registering a new System Software firmware to Service Support Tool (SST), select the USB as the target (Figure 1). On the drop down, in Figure 2, choose the drive letter corresponding to the USB drive that was previously inserted and successfully detected by the computer where Service Support Tool is running. On the right pane of the Service Support Tool window, choose the device series (Figure 4), and firmware version (Figure 5) where flashing is intended. Press the Start button in the center pane of the SST window to commence SST-to-USB firmware copy (Figure 6). Press the OK button in Figure 8, to complete the file copy operation. At this point, the usb thumb drive is now ready to be used for flashing an imageRUNNER device.

Figure 1. Select the target to be the USB drive

Figure 2. On the drop down button, choose the drive letter that corresponds to the previously detected USB thumb drive.

Figure 3. Information that the device in drive h: is a valid drive and is usable for file copy.

Figure 4. Choose the device series that you want to copy to the usb thumb drive.

Figure 5. Choose firmware version in the drop down list.

Figure 6. Click the start button to commence copy.

Figure 7. Copy process is in progress

Figure 8. Press OK after file copy is complete.

Note 1: As can be noticed below some device models have firmware that can be downloaded, then extracted to a certain folder and finally dragged to a usb thumb drive that has sufficient space to accommodate the system software files.
