there is a great site, google.com... it will explain how to use the software already installed on your mac for scanning.

Depending on the version of OS X may be disabled by default.
        Enable File Sharing

        1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
        2. Click on Sharing.
        3. Check the box next to File Sharing, and then click on Options.
        4. Check the box next to Share files and folders using SMB.
        5. Check the box next to the account you want to enable sharing.

NOTE: If prompted with the Authenticate window message of "To enable file sharing using SMB for "xxx", enter the password for that account", type in the password and click OK.
        6. Click Done

If Share files and folders using SMB does not appear then you may need to install a third party SAMBA for the version of OS X you have.
