HP 9050 Printer, prints before leading edge of paper

    This is a weird one.
It starts laying down the print a bit before the leading edge of the paper reaches the toner drum. It does it with all trays, even tray one, so cannot be the PIU assembly. Replaced the registration assembly, and still doing that. Even with the Y axis adjusted to -20 it's still not enough to move the print over on thIe page to where it should be. It's weird, the only part between T1 and the toner IS the registration assembly.

Have you looked at the registration flag? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Did you say if there are any jam codes?

The registration switch is part of the registration assembly. I'm sure that you plugged everything back in properly.

I haven't seen one of these in a while. The only thing in the database that might be useful is this:

"Recommend Move Tray Switch To STANDARD" indication, when printing from tray #4 (C8531A). Misfeeds jam code 41.03.00, 13.06.00 alternating.

The frame of the paper deck has parallelogrammed under the weight of a very heavy printer. The paper size switches miss the plungers on the tray. Jam code 41.03.00 means 'Unexpected Tray Size'.

Square up the paper deck and tighten the screws that secure the four front corners. Re-position size switch ~2mm to the right for good actuation.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.

ok that's what I see, the sensors are in the reg. assembly, I've tried two and both print like this. It does it from T1, T2 and T3 the same. No jams, just starts the print too early on the leading edge, to the point of cutting off the print on the leading edge. Paper trays are set right, no paper size errors etc. And since it does it on T1 also, that elimates the trays and the PIU assembly. It's a weird one!

this is an old post, so may be inapplicable now.
i used to service these a bunch mostly on the printer version, but also with the MFP model.
i used to replace the right side vertical transport sections when the rollers got slick and would jam. and the registration unit for the same reason, or for getting accordion jams just before the reg roller or transfer roller.

but i think it would always trigger a jam and a code that you can see in either the config page or diagnostic page report print.

i am assuming from your description that the top of your paper, the leading edge is what, missing about the top inch of the image, and then the trailing edge would have the image end above the bottom of the paper the same amount?

does it jam, or is this issue consistent, where all prints are off by this amount??
did this happen gradually or suddenly?

            Happy almost Friday.

I got it fixed a while back, the issue was my supplier sent me several bad registration assemblies, they must not have been testing their parts before selling them. I got one from another vendor and all was good.

oh cool. Happy Friday. i couldn't remember if the drive motor and clutch was on the registration unit. because the unit slides in from the right side, so i don't think the drive was on the rear printer frame.

anyway i would think if the paper was to late, the machine would signal a jam.

                    glad its all fixed up.

ok yeah the drive motor is in the back mounted to the gear drive assembly, with a gear poking through into the inside, the reg slides in from the right side (remove PIU , then it pulls out).

                      Thanks, happy friday back!
