    +360i yellow/organge Background C-2554

    Hey Guys,

The issue at hand is as follows:

Customer has a +360i. The magenta toner was changed, then the customer complained of yellowish/orange backgrounds on copies.
Upon observation, it became apparent that there is an evident toner backup, as small accumulations of orange toner consistently appear in front of wastetoner container. Additionally, a yellowish toner film is observed on the transfer belt after a few color copies.

I attempted to resolve the issue by replacing the wastetoner box and wastetoner transport unit, followed by a thorough machine cleaning and multiple gradation runs. Despite these efforts, the problem persisted.

Consequently, I opted to replace the Y and M development units, along with drums from another +360i with less than 100k copies. However, this replacement led to the occurrence of error C-2554. Upon inspecting the TCR values, it was noted that they were consistently around 6-7%. Following a system reboot, the error message did not reappear.

Last thing I did was to change the transfer belt, thinking it could be the cleaning blade - unfortunately without success.

Interestingly, the old Y and M dev units and the wastetoner transport unit from the customer's machine were put in the workshop's machine, and now it's showing error P-8. Moreover, there are printouts and toner residue on the transfer belt.

Why are the problems still with the customer when the suspected culprits have been replaced?
    What did i miss?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi. Don't swap used units from different copiers. The reason is as far as the copier is concerned nothing was changed and it's using voltages/charges/calibration for the old units. That is why you get c255x codes/ P codes and copy quality problems. Unfortunately, calibration won't help. If the drum is over life or close to it replace it with a new one and go from there. The i series doesn't appear to like the going past unit life.

My response is off topic, but if anybody can get a unit on an i-model to even make life (excluding T-Belts), consider yourself lucky. Drums seem to be getting better, but they still seem to come up short before you get streaks and who knows what from them. The fusers are a lost cause completely.

thank you for the quick feedback.
Unfortunately, the question now arises which drums and / or dev units I have to replace.
Is it the yellow or magenta unit? also I still do not quite understand how the problem could occur after changing the magenta toner.

It sounds like you have created too many variables by swapping dev and drum units from another machine, this will mess up the toner sensors in each unit making it impossible to tell if your initial problem was just the yellow unit over toning and maybe just needed a shake and a look at its tcr levels,

Put new units in and go from there.

By the look of your samples, it seemed like the yellow was the issue, but you said you took the yellow, magenta drums and dev units from another machine and put them into it, so now the machine will not know the toner levels of those units and will add toner or not on a par of the last unit readings and your drum units would be giving fake readings bad copies as they have not been set up by the machine.

Whats the meter reading on the machine?
What are your state confirm TCR levels now?
Have you got new dev units and drums to replace them with?
