    recycled paper !

Went to a customer today who had logged a call about lots of marks on scans.

    IMC2500 vs Develop 224e

When I looked at the paper, it was the lowest of the low in quality - Small black flecks all over it [ recycled paper ]

Customer was trying to tell me that they had used the same paper for years and the old machine [ 224e] didnt do this.

I proved the point with some good paper I carry in the van, but even when you prove the point they still dont believe you, possibly to save face.

I adj the DPI down from 400dpi to 300dpi and it looked alot better.

We had a client that was using recycled paper that had red dots in it. The client called saying the copier was leaving red dots...the copier was a Sharp mono SF-2114, I showed them the paper before it went though the copy machine and it had those red dots right out of the package.

yes - customers seem to default think its the machine. and the classic line = it was ok before!

For some reason certain types of customers tend to believe the paper pirates over the trained technician. In the end their cheap paper is ultimately cost them more on maintenance cost than it saves them on supply costs. One of the best papers I have ever seen was also less expensive that the discount store paper. It was being used by the print shop at an elementary school district. They ordered by the carload. They had 2 production machines in the print shop that did over 2 million pages a year each.

Hey I would love ask them how they managed to get color output from monochrome machine and see their faces

The one I remember was making browning water-mark like stains, on a monochrome Mita. The most interesting thing about it was that the paper started out white, until it passed through a fuser. Whatever was in the paper was activated by heat.

I had two forms of proof:
The brown marks appeared after passing through the adjoining HP printer's fuser.
How exactly can a monochrome copier print brown? It can't ... not ever.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Only think I can think of would be some type of chemical coating on it for thermal imaging such as for a portable thermal printer. The heads on those get a bit hotter than laser fusing unit so might make brown streaks.
