Envelopes printed from Word only appears in Paper Setting as Letter

Trying to print MS Word COM10 envelopes via the dialogue box.

Everything looks good but at the copier's LCD panel under Job Status, Paper size the envelope is displayed as Letter and not COM10.

It seems like Word is sending down the command to print on Letter size and not COM10.

e4525AC copier is at latest V1801 firmware with the latest print driver set "Restore defaults".

I have set in 08 codes:

    08-4140 Com10
    08-9164-1 Intelligent Bypass
    08-9165-1 Auto Start
    08-9305-32 Envelope

I am aware of the tick box in Printer Properties/ Device Settings/ Drawer Settings/ Overiride Application Paper Source Settings. In a normal situation, when unticked the envelope will advance automatically into the copier. When ticked, the Job Staus light flashes yellow and you have to press the Start hard key.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Re: Envelopes printed from Word only appears in Paper Setting as Letter

I've had this issue with Lexmarks before, and it was always a Microsoft Word Setting, not an MFP issue. One particular customer had this problem repeatedly. Their particular IT provider would just swap out whole PC's whenever there was any issue, with a sanitized PC. I always knew what had happened, because I would get a call for this specific issue. I got lucky, and found an office person that was willing to help me out. I'd get the service call. I would email my friend: "Guess what happened! Bill is having problems printing envelopes again, lol!". My contact would walk over, make a simple settings change, and the problem was gone for a while. Here is my database entry:

Machine requires print confirmation for each envelope. In Microsoft Word envelope source is designated as "Manual Envelope" or "Auto Select". Select feed source in Microsoft Word application: Microsoft Word > highlight the receivers address > select Envelopes > Options > Feed From: (drop down menu) > select Multipurpose Feeder > OK. Confirm that the paper source multipurpose feeder paper size and type are programmed as COM10 Envelope.

I suspect that it will help you. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I tested your suggestion and it did not work. The dialogue boxes in MS365 are different than you described. I suspect I am dealing with a Microsoft setting somewhere in Word.

It did occur to me that this version of Word is on a local PC. I was wondering if I print from Word in the MS Cloud on this same PC if the outcome will be any different. I checked and printing envelopes from the MS Cloud is not available according to MS Help.

I know I tried to print envelopes on a different PC in this office and it worked as expected.

This specific PC might have to settle for printing LT size sheet labels.

      Thanks for the response!

Most folks start with a LT sized Word document then try to manipulate it onto a COM10 envelope.
If using Word, I always tell my customers to use the Mailings tab for all envelopes and labels.
Almost all common sizes are available as a drop down choice and you can even create a custom size. This way, the size and type are already set as COM10 / envelope. Set the bypass tray to the same size / type and set the print driver like the example below:
        envelopes.jpg driver.jpg
You can even print the envelope and the letter to stuff as one print job using the add a document feature.
You can also set 08-9164 to 1. This will disable having to push the START button for bypass jobs.

When I click on print in the Windows Envelope dialogue box, the envelope immedialtely begins to print using the defaullt printer properties settings in Control Panel. I never get a chance to adjust the print driver.

I do not want to make COM10 the default in my Printer Preferences becuase it will force users to make an extra effort to print 98% of their regular documents.

If there is an option for Print Preview you could create a profile in the driver with the envelope setting, call it "envelopes" and save. Then they can choose the envelope preset only 2% of the time and it will auto default back to normal settings for the other 98%.
Defaults are only applied to the driver if they click apply, if they click OK it will only effect that one job.

EDIT: Looks like Print Preview has to be enabled in 365 to allow the print settings to be changed:

              I will test your suggestion.

I am also thinking that somehow the customer's Word app is corrupted. Maybe by a recent Windows automatic update.

It seems that Word is sending down the paper size command for envelopes to the copier. I tested different sizes in the Envelope dialogue box which suggests the same.

I also thought that maybe the paper guides in the bypass tray were not tight to the envelope and this would give a false paper size reading. This proved not to be the case even when I exaggerated the width of the paper guides.

I have tested this paper size problem 20 times with my Win 11 Pro laptop and e2528A and cannot exactly replicate the customer experience.

The customer is a three hour drive away but I am going that way next week for other calls. In the meantime they can print Letter size sheet labels.

I think the proper response is to connect my laptop to the copier and test envelope printing. If it works A-OK with my laptop we know it is the customer's computers. They are managed by a 3rd party IT company.

... The customer, a busy law firm, wants close to an auto print solution for envelopes.

In a similar different thread, Control Panel/ Printers/Lexmark

I discussed my need to create custom print drivers pulling preprinted Trust and General cheques from Drawer 3 and 4 with the solution.

Perhaps, I should create a custom print driver for Envelopes.

As I was reading your words, I was thinking exactly the same think. It's kinda old-school to have multiple drivers for multiple functions, but it's a great way to idiot-proof the process for a customer that want everything automatic. =^..^=

When we have customers who don't want to utilize user codes, we install a printer defaulted to B/W and one defaulted to color. Probably your best bet considering the multiple hour drive as well. The Toshiba has 2 buttons to save sizes for the bypass tray, load envelopes, push the pre-programmed size button, print the envelope.

I did not think to use those two hard keys on the LCD panel. Thanks,

I explored the Programmable Button 1 & 2 via Top Access but there is no choice available for the Bypass tray or envelopes. Big snow storm this week will delay my trip.

Poor wording on my part, for some reason I thought there were 2 programable buttons for the bypass, turns out there are 4.
See PDF for 2 ways to achieve bypass envelope printing. You can make these changes remotely using a VNC viewer, save the trip.

Thanks for the follow up. There is so much to remember about these copiers.

On the e4525AC series there is no longer a green lever to move. There is the same lever you described on the e4528A series.

I tested the procedure and it worked. In all of my years of sell/service Toshiba copiers I have never tried this procedure.

Muchas Gracias! I hope this thread helps other Toshiba techs!

So I was able to both Quick Assist and VNC (using free Tight VNC) into this copier today with help of a local service tech.

The PDF I rec'd was of great help and I got the envelope issue resolved on 2 of 6 PCs. The other four next week remotely.
