    Xerox WC 7345 Developer change?

I am not new to Xerox but the 7345 I am working on has poor black copy quality. As if the developer is bad. The machine has only 86K on it and I have read where the developer is rating at 350K. I can get some developer for about $90. but I looked at the developer unit and looks like a bear to remove from machine. Is there a quick procedure that I don't see? Are these machines known for poor sharpness when just copying black? Thanks for any help.

There is no quick and easy way to remove the developer units from this machine. Best to get a manual and follow it step by step.

Depends on what the CQ problem is: If it's barberpole, then probably a drum (bearings). If it's lite, it's probably the trimmer spacing. Probably not the dev itself because it is a trickle system. Forgot what we set it to, but if you need our spacing let me know.

The copy is light. Don't know if this is solvable just by doing a toner adjustment through diagnostics or changing the trimmer spacing. The machine is 45 miles away and don't want to get stuck out there without having information.

\If you haven't gone yet, the spacing we use is a tight .030, loose .028. Overall light, or light at one end, is probably not the dev material, at least we have never had a lite copy caused by "worn out dev" material. It always has been caused by the trimmer bar spacing, if all of the nvm perameters are set correctly, or the drum. There are probably other reasons, but they are rare. Why it changes, I don't know. Maybe the plastic warps.

if its faint on back only then switch drum with another drum and print halftone to see if problem has done, sometimes the dev roll causes this issue although you put new dev in, and the barber pole issue,(diagonal lines, colour,no colour etc) is caused by collapsed dev, really common problem with 72xx and 73xx, i changed countless devs on these machines while working for xerox, theres a set of nvms and software to upload to stop the problem from re-occuring, altough i still have seen it re-occur, but a longer time between dev changes! if you need any more hellp pm me!

High resistance on the drum bearings will suck the dev out of the housing and cause barberpole effects every time.

Never heard of drum resistance causing dev to be sucked out, but doesn't mean it cant happen, and ive fixed millions of these machines!

Customer had already changed the drum with a new drum and there was no change. I have not taken the developer out of this machine yet and was hoping it was easier than it looks. Does the whole face frame panel have to come off to slide that out the front. Is this a 10 screw job or a 100 screw job? I would almost bet from fixing other model xerox that the metering blade is the culprit. Are these made of the white plastic material?

    Remove in order:

    1. front cover
    2. drum cartridges
    3. waste toner cartridge
    4. waste toner cartridge cover
    5. fuser area cover (behind front door) 2 screws
    6. Move xerographic release lever up to a mid position
    7. inner cover 4 screws
    8. all toner dispense assemblies. (close toner outlet door to keep toner from spilling) 1 screw per dispense assembly
    9. houseing for waste toner full sensor
    10. front plate (6 screws)
    11. developer housing

The wire harness going to the 4 drum crum connectors are a tight fit and you may need to remove the connector bracket to get things to fit back into place.

I would recommend you replace the developer and developer housing. If you do, the new developer housing will come with a sticker that has the ATC sensor setup data on it. Be sure to remove this and retain for adjustment after the parts are reinstalled.

If the developer housing was replaced perform the following:

    Enter diagnostic mode
From Maintenance/Diagnostic screen select Max Setup
    Select ATC sensor setup
Locate the ATC sensor calibration code (from the sticker you removed from the DV housing before you installed it) This is a 3 digit code that always starts with a 0.
Depending on the code, you will need to enter 2 values "sensitivity gradient value" and "standard tc output default value".

Post here what your 3 digit code is and I can tell you what your 2 values should be.
