    [Electrical] HP Laserjet 500 M525 - ADF Issue

    I have an HP Laserjet 500 M525 that when you put a sheet of paper on
    the ADF, the ADF light will turn on showing that it detects the sheet in the ADF
    however, when trying to copy, scan, fax it will scan from the flatbed instead.

    Has anyone seen this? Is there any part I can replaced inside the ADF or do I need
    to replace the whole ADF?

      Never seen that. I hate these stupid little doc feeders. Let us know how that comes out. I'm not sure replacing the ADF would even fix it.

          I have seen exact thing you describe several times. You have to replace the whole ADF. Unfortunately no individual parts available for the ADF.

              This series of machines are turds. I had one with a scanner code, replaced the scanner, scanner control board, formatter. Still coded.

                  Agreed. Working on these machines almost always leaves the tech feeling frustrated and the customer upset and ripped off.

                      I ordered a replacement ADF from our parts depto, it arrived with severed wire harness connector, disassembled both ADFs and found that 1 of the cables in thevery wire harness of the original ADF was severed (black wires) while the other cable was good (multi color wires), on the replacement ADF the damaged connector was on the multicolor cable while the black was good, took those harnesses apart and made one of the two, the replacement ADF also smelled burnt, I used the harness on the original ADF, it worked like a charm.

                          Was it rebuilt or new? I know some companies sell both.

                              Bumping this up because I now have a similar problem with one. The screen shows the doc feeder door is open. I jiggle the wire harness, and the light goes out. Yet, when I make a copy, it still scans off the glass. I'm going to try to replace the wire harness itself and see if that helps. Hopefully I ordered the right part: Q7404-50007

                                  don't waste your time. you are going to end up replacing whole adf.

                                      I replaced the wire harness and the ADF worked perfectly. I would suggest guys try that before doing the whole ADF. I believe those wires are bound up too tight and then when people open and close the lid, it puts too much stress on them.

                                      Once I got the old one out and pulled back the shrink wrap, here's what I found:
