Savin c 3828 (rich0 a 2238c\lanier ld 238c) jam code

Working on savin c3828 giving a j001 code and instructs user to open rt side door and remove jam. No jam in machine. Sounds like a paper sensor. But, the only sensor i find for this machine is "id sensor in paper exit unit" ( p/n b1805450) the exit is on the left side of the machine. Any thoughts? Thanks

J001 on most Ricoh machines translates to "Paper in machine at startup" but doesn't tell you what sensor the paper was at. If the machine was turned off/on to try to clear a jam check your jam history SP7507-002 to find out what the original jam was (7507-001 will be the 001 code) If the machine is only reporting J001 start with the door switches - when they get dirty they get flaky and any vibration is enough open them just long enough to stop the machine. Since there was no actual jam the machine logs the J001 because the door was closed with paper still inside. Don't forget the finisher door switches too, as these seem to be the highest failure on most machines. (except the LD245)

Also if paper never leaves the tray, it will indicate a jam.

Yes, but it won't be a J001 - it would be a J003 or a J051 depending on if it is a leading or trailing edge jam (doesn't hit the sensor in time or doesn't leave the sensor in time) That's assuming it is tray 1 jamming, for tray 2 it would be J004 / J052 and so on...

BTW, for any Ricoh Newbie's who stumble on this thread, the jam codes can be hard to find in the SM - they are broken down in SP7504, so the easiest thing to do (if you can get the machine to print at all - if not you can still look at it directly) is to print the SMC logging data - SP5990-004. You then have the jam table, number of jams in each location, 10 most recent jam locations including meter counts, and recent SC codes. It's really useful not only for fixing the current problem, but it can help spot something that's going to be a problem soon.

i agree with the finisher door switches or the switches between the finisher and the copier, check the bracket that holds the two switches. it can get bent if the customer slams the finisher against the copier. quick way to check is to shake the finisher and see if the door open light comes on.

STILL STUCK

I AM STILL WORKING ON THIS BEAST. ANYONE HAVE ANY FRESH IDEAS?
THERE IS NO FINISHER ON THIS MACHINE. I CHECKED THE DOOR SENSORS UNLESS I AM MISSING ONE SOMEWHERE. I TRIED DISCONNECTING THE LCT IN DESPERATION. NO CHANGE. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE EXIT SENSORS. THE JAM CODE SHOWS THE LETTER "A" BUT THE DOTTED LINE ON THE PICTURE SHOWS THE WHOLE PAPER PATH. CAN I TRUST THAT IS IS AT LETTER "A" OR NOT? IF YOU CAN'T TELL I AM REALLY OVER THIS AND SO IS MY CUSTOMER! IT IS SO FRUSTRATING BECAUSE IT SHOULD BE A SIMPLE FIX. THANKS FOR ANY ADVISE.

I think maybe there's a sensor that's not working or actuator broken somewhere in the machine. Go to input check in the SP modes. Page 5-114 in the manual. SP 5-803-5 to 6 should all be zero's. If there's a 1 then you can check in the manual witch sensor is detecting paper in the machine. Remember, a faulty sensor cable or plug that is not plugged into the board can also cause this.Thats the only thing I can think of that is causing this.

Good luck!

Are you able to feed at all ? What about other trays ? Assuming the feeds and torque limiter are OK, I would consider changing out yhe feed clutch.
