    Must have Thumb Drive Utilities

Hey guys, help me build a robust, professional-grade everyday carry thumb drive.

    So far I have

    - Firefox.exe

    - Angry IP Scanner

    - a lightweight FTP Utility

    - CCleaner.exe

    - a few how-to notes and pdfs

    - working on a voluminous print driver collection

    What do YOU carry.

    Thanks in advance!

    Wouldn't be without:

    - Wireshark (packet captures)

    - Ghostscript / Ghostview (PostScript viewer)

    - PCL Reader (PCL viewer)

    - Downloader 2006 (a conglomeration of printer tools)

    - Irfanview (all around graphic file tool; also an excellent scanning application)

All of these tools are free for the downloading.

Something else to carry around is a blank thumb drive for when you have to download firmware on the fly or out in the field.

Don't forget the drivers for the models that you service most often. You never know when the customer asks you to install the driver on a new computer.

            Check out www.portableapps.com.

I don't really know how many apps I have on my main thumb drive. All of these apps run directly from the thumb drive and don't leave files behind on the host computer. I also have this installed on a USB hard drive that has all of my manuals, drivers & firmware files.

I also carry Fing and netstumbler. I've had to upgrade my thumb drive to 128gig recently............

                  A few additions:

                  - Wireshark is available as a U3 version, and can run from a U3 jump drive, not requiring any installation.

                  - Miniraw and Minilpd are my favorite tools to directly capture print jobs (your PC takes on the IP of the printer). These tools require far less finagling than Wireshark does. They are free, as well.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

Firmware and drivers mainly although I tend to download drivers from the Sharp site when I am at customers.

I have a few files used for demoing print from USB and a use it for USB scanning when on site and then plug into laptop and email over to where ever needed.

These are some good suggestions, I need to check some of them out. I mainly carry blanks for farmware most drivers and firmware I keep on my lap top and just copy to USB when I need them.

That GCC printer site hasn't been updated since 2004. I've got 25 GCC printer manuals on my site. Haven't sold any of them yet.
