    Canon powerswitches

I'm doing a DIY project in which I want to use a power switch that will automatically switch itself off when power to a system is shut off. I know on the Canon IR Advances they do this exact thing, but how do they do it? What kind of switch do they use? Is it a switch that has a magnet it in that when power is lost it release and the switch is flipped back to the off position? Is it done via a solenoid that pushes the switch back to the off position when the machine is shut down?

If anyone can clue me in to how they do it I would appreciate it.

    Thanks.

    Re: Canon powerswitches

Many Canon and Toshiba power switches both do this. Typically they are DPDT switches with a 24v solenoid to kick it off when desired. It can't turn itself back on once it's off. So you've got +24vdc steady to one side of the solenoid, then a momentary pulse of ground from the controller board to the other leg of the solenoid, to kick it off. Solenoid voltage may vary based on specific model.

I remember when we would get fuser or lamp errors on Canons, we would hold the switch On to get into service mode. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
