I guess confessed Russian spy Maria Butina pleading guilty to conspiracy on Dec 14th against the United States in an attempt to influence the US 2016 Presidential election is not good enough proof for some people to not believe that this is a real thing. Russia attempted to influence the US election in favor of electing Donald Trump.

Russia has dark ties to President Trump and believes that they can influence his decision making.

I agree you are probably correct in stating that Maria Butina was not connected directly to President Trump. Trump likely did not know she existed.

What the confession of Maria Butina proves is that Russia was actively trying to influence the 2016 Presidential election with the goal of a Democrat defeat. Maria Butina was only one of many avenues of attack.
