Smooth peanut butter, never crunchy. And I prefer honey over jam, but sometimes I will make an exception for grape jelly.
Honey goes on the toast or bread first, then the peanut butter on top of the honey.
I'm not saying this is the correct way, just my way.

I have used honey instead of jelly when making a sandwich with toasted raisin bread. And now you have inspired a new idea. Honey, peanut butter on raisin bread and then the sandwich goes in the flipwich sandwich maker and see how that comes out.

Either peanut butter on both slices of bread or peanut butter on one and butter on the other. If doing grilled sandwiches, peanut butter on both.

Having an argument with the Wife. When you make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, Do you put jelly directly on the bread or do you put a thin layer of peanut butter then the jelly? the purpose of the thin layer would be so the jelly doesn't saturate the bread.

Peanut butter on one slice and jelly on the other slice and put them together. On the other hand if you are making a PB&J sandwich with a nice toasted English muffin then the peanut utter goes on both halves of the English muffin and the jelly goes on the peanut butter. Gotta let that peanut butter melt into all the nooks and crannies of the nice hot English muffin

But I prefer the jelly to sink into the bread, tastes better that way. even if it does get a little soggy in the lunch box. Also tastes really good if grilled like a grilled cheese

The bread does not get soggy if you paint both pieces of bread with peanut butter (or butter), then jelly in the middle.

I suppose it depends on if you're going to eat that sandwich in the next 10 seconds, or 6 hours later. =^..^=
