    Manpower Shortage

I don't suppose there's any hope we will have enough manpower to actually do our jobs anytime in the near future. Some of the local Ricoh techs started a rant in our email - thought this was worth a laugh:

Question:What's the part # for a tech, and do they also come in packs of three?

Reply: According to Ricoh policy they must be ordered machine specific, (ex: B132TECH) They are Single Use Disposable, and extremely cheap (read: underpaid) Unfortunately due to the current economic conditions this resource will be backordered until approx. January 2012

Sad part is I'm not sure he was joking...

Whoever came up with that is a genius!

And I don't even work for Ricoh!

Our company is actually hiring and even though we have run ads in two of the larger papers in the northern area of the state, we have received little to no response. Well, that's what I was told by the owners. I don't think they would lie about this though. We are in despreate need in one area for one, maybe two, techs and growing fast in another and looking to get someone in before things get out of hand.

That email is funny as hell though!!

Hey fixthecopier, I've felt like that plenty of times, and I'm sure that many of the people here have also. It's great to be able to let it out. The best thing that you can do though is let it go.

Noone at your company cares if you are the genius surrounded by incompetents, or if you are the incompetent surrounded by geniuses. They only care if you're making noise about it. The internal discontent will eat you up inside.

The best thing that you can do is let it go.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for the response. If anybody is wondering, I pulled my sarcastic rant against my managers. However, in a more professional manner I would like to get feedback on a new thread I will start about part usage. Thanks

Dont ya just love this economy? Companies are laying off, people are losing benefits and getting reductions in their paychecks. It's truly a great time for companies. For the rest of us its more work for less money.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

We hired 5 techs in the past few months(thanks ricoh for buying ikon) business has been growing(but still tight). Luckily our managers understand that parts are a necessary evil. Clean, adjust then replace, but it's best to be proactive.
We did the no parts and just respond fast BS. It doesn't work because you get so far behind. By keeping the machines running properly we have the time to get there quicker then when we did hit and runs. Replacing parts is ok, but know why it's going in and don't troubleshoot with parts. LOL what we call bringing B.O.B (Box O' Boards) to the call with you. It takes a little while to get it under control and we have to constantly be aware of our parts usage. But in the long run it is a better run department. Good luck getting your bosses to understand this. It's working for us.
