At this point in commercial aviation we are not yet ready to trust our lives to an AI. There have been far too many fatal air disasters caused by the of a single input sensor to automated flight control systems that in affect caused the Auto Pilot to actually crash the aircraft. Things like clog, frozen or stuck angle of attack sensors on the Boeing 737 to think it was climbing when it was actually diving rapidly toward the ground. A proper trained flight crew normally could have merely turned off the Auto Pilot and safely flown the planes had they known what was happening. And there is no way that a an autonomous aircraft could have done what Captain Chesley Sullenberger and first officer Jeffrey Skiles did when both engines were taken out by Canadian geese and they had to land US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River.
